Description
Summary:August 2, 1931. Kjerulfs [Kjerulf] Fjord. Through to Dickson [Dicksons] Fjord. In background on left: Range of mountains forming eastern side of Unknown Valley. In center a peak or nanatak with snow on summit; on right, range of mts. [mountains] forming western side of Unknown Valley, seen just south of S.E. end of Left Valley. In foreground Hisinger Glacier [Hisinger Gletscher], at the most northern end of Unknown Valley and at what I call The Divide. The surface of the glacier is entirely covered with sharp-pointed hummocks and crevasses; the side facing me terminated in dark soil and stones and showed no effect of grinding or tearing out of the land. A cleft in the glacier to the south (right) of the peak or nanatak has stream of water descending through it. At the bottom of the photo is the largest of the streams I saw, coming off this glacier. Photo taken from slope of southern terminal of mts. [mountains] forming eastern side of Kjerulfs [Kjerulf] Fjord, looking S.S.W.
