Description
Summary:This study examines the influence of market orientation, strategic orientation and external working conditions on export performance of fishing companies in Northwest Russia, specifically in the Murmansk region. Personal interviews conducted with managers of five fishing companies provided data for analyses. The results of the study suggest that the conservative fishing companies in the Murmansk region changed their strategies from plan adherence to rational economic behavior. They base their decisions on what kind of products and where to sell on their knowledge about customers and competitors, taking into account changing working conditions on the domestic and international markets.
