TF er ansvarlig for å sette i gang blodproppmekanismen. En blodpropp kan dannes i kroppens samleårer (vener – kalles da dyp venøs trombose eller lungeemboli) eller årene som fører blodet ut fra hjertet (arterier - kalles da hjerteinfarkt eller hjerneslag). I denne avhandlingen har man studert hvordan den naturlige hemmeren til TF i monocytter, TFPI, påvirker monocyttenes evne til å sette i gang blodproppmekanismen og hvordan antall monocytter og deres evne til å uttrykke TF er forbundet med risiko for blodpropp. Man fant at monocyttene også uttrykte TFPI og at TFPI i sterk grad regulerte TF sin evne til å fremme ...
