Summary:In recent years, there has been an increacing focus on environmental issues and the ongoing climate change. With predictions of increasing rainfall and more extreme weather, this poses a greater risk of damage to buildings, which again places stricter requirements on construction details. In Norway, there has been focus on construction in cold and arctic regions, and the impact on existing buildings as well as new buildings. Climate adaptation in cold climates aims to reduce disadvantages at low temperatures, snow, ice and wind. In addition, the solar conditions vary according to the seasons, where the summer has long days with sun and the winters have absence of sunlight for the majority of the day, The climatic development we see today has led to the term Cold Climate Technology, which aims to reduce the disadvantages of, or exploiting the benefits of the cold climate. This thesis is designed as a case study, in which various remedial measures are considered for two apartment buildings from 1961. There has not not been done any significant improvementsto the buildings since the construction year. Methods that were used was document review, the use of files provided by Ofoten Midt-Troms Boligbyggelag, in addition to tests and measurements. Further, there was carried out research of climatic parameters, assessments of the building's condition. Based on this, descriptions of solutions were further recommended. The main puropse of this thesis has been to describe and analyze relevant technical solutions for the residential blocks in Beisfjordveien 88-90, with focus on climate change in cold and arctic regions. This is due to the fact that Ofoten Midt-Troms Boligbyggelag wants to upgrade the buildings, with particular focus on reduced energy consumption and adaptations to existing and future climate impacts. The thesis was initiated by introducing theories on the current climatic situation, as well as the predicted climate change. These theories were then linked to the impact they have on buildings in cold and arctic regions. After this analysis, it was linked to the actul case, namely the apartment blocks in Beisfjordveien. The condition of the apartment blocks was assessed by means of tests and analyzes in order to better assess building and energy technical solutions for the buildings in question. Relevant findings were water damage, air leaks and the need for replacement of roofs, exterior wood walls, windows and doors. It is also considered to be highly necessary to install a new ventilation system. Furthermore, there is a presentation of solutions that will contribute to energy-efficient solutions and a more sustainable future for the buildings
