The Swedish pastor Lars Levi Laesstadius is most known for having founded the Laestadian Pietist revival movement. However, Laestadius was also a noted botanist and in this paper the most important of his scientific achievements are discussed. This article focuses on Læstadius’ work as a botanist and interest in a natural scientist until his dying day. His view of science was in fact quite modern, in the sense that he believed that nature itself creates variation within the various species.
