| Summary: | The monthly meeting of this society was held in the Society's rooms last evening, August 10, Mr. James Barnard, V.P.,in the chair. Over 40 members were present and several visitors. Includes list of additions to the Library during the month of July. A paper was read entitled "On the Australian Pectens confounded with the New Zealand.P. lacticostatus, Gray." By Professor Ralph Tate, F.G.S., F.L.S. A paper entitled "Is Jupiter Self-luminous?" By Mr. A.B. Biggs was also read. Mr. R. M. Johnston read the following paper entitled:—"Note on the Discovery of Plant Remains in the Tertiary Marine Beds at Table Cape, Tasmania." Much discussion ensued on this topic and the whole report was included in the proceedngs. Mr. W. Saville-Kent, F.L.S.F. Z.S. contributed two papers. 1. On a suspected hybrid species of Trumpeter, and upon other rare fish taken in Tasmanian waters. 2. Note upon the occurrence of the Sydney Crawfish, Palinurus hugellii, on the coast of Tasmania. Life-sized coloured illustrations of the several fish described, executed by the author of the paper, were exhibited to the meeting. A circular was read from the Royal Society of Victoria and the Geographical Society of Australia, asking the co-operation of the society in acquiring Antarctic information and pursuing Antartic discovery. |
