This Ecological Character Description outlines and discussesthe ecological character of Macquarie Islands wetland ecosystems, as part of the requiredAustralian Government documentation for the intended nomination of Macquarie Islandas a Ramsar site by the Tasmanian and Australian Governments on the basis of itsconsiderable wetland values. The island contains a wide range of wetland types, severalof which are considerably under-represented in Australias Ramsar estate.
