Summary: | The mental health of university students is an important topic that requires attention. Stress, anxiety, and depression are increasingly common and directly affect their academic, social, and professional development. A prototype of a responsive web application is proposed that applies artificial intelligence and ICTs to improve the control and treatment of these disorders through an expert system, seeking to improve mental health in higher education institutions. To achieve this objective, different programming languages such as Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and libraries such as Experta and Flask have been used. This expert system called SAMI identifies students at higher risk of emotional disorders and provides emotional control recommendations based on the test result, and suggests specialized consultation if required. As a result, a statistical analysis was obtained that allowed understanding the number of students who are possibly affected by a disorder, enabling executives to have a general idea of the mental health status of students and, accordingly, to take necessary measures or innovative strategies to combat this problem. The prototype test was conducted with 21 9th-semester Systems Engineering students, who were sent a satisfaction survey at the end to identify how useful SAMI was, and most of the responses were positive.
