Summary:1. 1. The mitochondrial fraction of liver from Atlantic salmon contained about 90% of subcellular pyruvate carboxylase activity (EC 6.4.1.1). 2. 2. Kidney, brain, heart, and gills contained 20, 19, 3 and 2%, respectively, of the activity observed per unit weight of liver. 3. 3. Assays with partially purified enzyme showed the level of acetyl CoA and the ratio of ATP/ADP to be the major regulators, with ADP (but not AMP) being a potent inhibitor of ATP binding. © 1993.
