Summary:The Honourable Justice Murray Sinclair is Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, the mandate of which is to inform all Canadians about First Nations, Inuit, and Metis experiences of the Indian Residential School System in Canada. Manitoba's first Aboriginal Judge, Justice Sinclair was appointed Associate Chief Judge of the Provincial Court of Manitoba in 1988 and shortly thereafter appointed Co-Commissioner of Manitoba's Aboriginal Justice Inquiry. Justice Sinclair has been awarded a National Aboriginal Achievement Award, as well as honourary degrees from the Universities of Manitoba, Ottawa, and St. John's College.
