Chionodraco rastrospinosus is a species that belongs to the genus Chionodraco (family Channichthyidae). Until an expedition carried out in late 2013 recorded the presence of C. rastrospinosus in the southeastern Weddell Sea, it was thought that this species only inhabited the areas of the South Orkney Islands, South Shetland Islands, and Antarctic Peninsula. The aim of this study is to determine whether population structure is present among three populations of C. rastrospinosus that are found in the Antarctic Peninsula, South Orkney Islands, and Weddell Sea and, if it is present, identify the factors that may have caused this differentiation.
