| Summary: | open This research assesses the impacts of oil operations on the environment and on the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, a Canadian Indigenous group in Northern Alberta. The overarching question of this research is, ‘How does oil extraction impact the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation?’ In order to address this question, a mixed methods approach is employed which explores both bibliographic and qualitative methodologies. This research establishes international and national legal frames in order to contextualize realties faced by the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation. Subsequently, it builds a case on oil operations in Northern Alberta which works to demonstrate the extent to which oil operations violate human rights and environmental preservation. Such an output plays a in the potential future of human and environmental protection.
