Description
Summary:reticulate and growing with well up [Sketch: Near Cape Fear; Broad after sculpture on island as we went to sea from [Prince] [William] [Sound] All the island overswept, now a mass of broad scallops, mostly down sculpture] towards the summit of Kodiak green [mountains]. Good botanists mistook it for salix. July 3 Went on picnic to Wood Island with Mrs. Harriman at 9.30; returned at 3 P.M. Found part of old forest and got good [approximating] to age of 10 spruces: one nearly 5 [feet] [diameter] perhaps 300 [years] old. See last [page]. Found Moneses in fine ferny mossy woods, some good sized cottonwoods seen. Heard of large birch on rivers https://scholarlycommons.pacific.edu/jmj-all/3668/thumbnail.jpg
