Dated at top right: 1899] Snow buntings. Ice firmly packed along middle of Reid Inlet. Camped at mouth of Inlet S[outh] side at mouth of stream from large mor[aine] deposit. In scrambling down mor[aine] slope of round boulders & pebbles started mud ava[lanche] wh[ich] poured in gray oily stream bearing boulders down with it [rattling] smooth[ ]. 13. Started for Pacific up right (S) side. Fairly passable water. Landed on knob 8 ms[miles] down Discovered new tide gl[acier]. [ ] melting. Pacific 4 ms[miles] back Large island 2 ms[miles] long the face of wh[ich] only was open when I visited it 20 yrs ago. 3 tide gls[glaciers] out of [one] Sketched present conditions for compar[ison] Reid Inlet not only 3 to 4 ms[miles] longer but double width.
