Raised anchor and attempted to sail across the estuary to land and examine the banks of the low delta opposite Elephant Point, but ran aground ere we had gone half a mile. A few natives came off with odds and ends to trade. Bought a kyack for 2 sacks of flour, dolls, etc – also ducks and cranberry. It was a lively sight to see the natives from 3 boats land and run, men, women and children, to the tundra and begin feasting on berries, lying down on the clean mossy sod and gathering the rich crops of cran[berries] and arbutus and crowberries.
