In the morning we visited Puffin and Chamisso Islands, the former well named, as it is covered with puffins on the rocky sides as well as over the top in holes dug into the sod. They are queer birds, parrot beaks red at tip as if dipped in blood, colored like autumn leaves, and the rest yellow. The feet red, back black, belly white, white ring about the neck and stripes on side of head. A few Kotzebue gulls also, the young able to fly, Million tame, and awkward in gestures.
