Not a square foot on all the broad waving tundra but would make a charming picture, and not one particle of dust on it, seemingly not since the day it began to be, no more than on the crystal ice on which it is growing. Red cranberries put on it clusters at the ends of shining glossy leaves as if for beauty only, blue huckleberries, black arbutus berries, and crowberries. Ptarmigan in flocks, the young almost full grown, wandering over this lovely plushy sod, reveling in abundance. Reindeer too, at times, as seen by traces, and sometimes geese and ducks and swans.
