See-saw, rolling from side to side in the huge swells, seams creaking, groaning, dishes clattering, rudder shaft grunting patiently. Temp. 42, wind howling, everybody complaining, many profaning. Only the gulls seem satisfied and comfortable as they ride gracefully on the wild waves or circle about the ship on easy wing through the gray gloom. Aug 24.
