Description
Summary:kittiwakes, and Rodger gulls. Have no hope of being able to find our way into Plover Bay until the sky clears. See-saw, rolling from side to side in the huge swells, seams creaking, groaning, dishes clattering, rudder shaft grunting patiently. Temp. 42, wind howling, everybody complaining, many profaning. Only the gulls seem satisfied and comfortable as they ride gracefully on the wild waves or circle about the ship on easy wing through the gray gloom. Aug 24. Fog lifted and the rain and drizzle ceased early this morning, and we found ourselves far off shore but little south of St. Lawrence Island, the current amounting since we passed the Strait to about 80 miles. https://scholarlycommons.pacific.edu/jmj-all/3140/thumbnail.jpg
