Parnassia potentilla or ivesia. hedysarum [lutkae] etc The [rougher] looking growths are made up of dwarf alder reaching height of 15 ft. [feet] 1/2 way up the mtn [mountain]. Elevation of 3100 ft. [feet] or [200?] so Fine view of the lofty diagonal cleaved mtn [mountain] summit wh [which] is really the summit of the general mass forming boundary wall of inlet at upper portion of nearly all of inlet 41 Has many small gls [glaciers] trib [tributary] to the 1st of E [east] tribs [tributaries] of main M [Muir] gl [glacier]. 5 or 6 of these tribs [tributaries] seen. Most of them now cut off & independent. Main pk [peak] about 5000 or a little less Also had glorious views of [St Elias] Fairweather range. La Perouse Crillion. Lituya & Fairweather La Perouse is pyramidal at summit finely formed & makes charming show with its crowd of subordinate peaks with many gls [glaciers] between Next N [north] ward comes Crillion Awful in height 15900 & massive strange sculpture [Looks] Shaped like a [huge] twisted shell. a huge gl [glacier] flowing from its ample hollows An extremely complicated group or forest of pks [peaks] & ridges in front of it. https://scholarlycommons.pacific.edu/jmj-all/2869/thumbnail.jpg |
