Description
Summary:[in margin: Please return to R.U.J.28Special][newspaper clipping] CAMINETTI WILL NOT RUN.Another Man to Be Named for Congress From the Second district.SACREMENTO, September 3.-A. Caminetti, who was recently nominated in San Francisco for Congressman from the Second district, has notified ex-Senator A.F. Jones of Butte county. chairman of the district Convention, that he will not take the nomination under any circumstances. The chairman will call the convention together soon, this time in the Assembly chamber in Sacramento. The probable nominee of the convention will be Marion Devries of San Joaquin county.Martinez, Cal. Sep. 14 / 94My dear Mr. Johnson,Had I received notice of Mr. Drakes Alaska trip a few days earlier I would have joined him at Tacoma. For I was aching for a drink of icy air. But I chanced to have an engagement that I could not well escape from.Be sure to get Burroughs veins well filled with California to insure his coming with the two Century boys next summerBancroft Library I have a mortal dread of danger to lads in my care & must have some one to divide responsibility Bi[ndes?] I want to know Burroughs better & get his help in [singing?] California. I am sure he will be born again in our glorious mountains. I only fear those mildewey inns on the Hudson will hold him. Quote scripture on him, at least two words of it, "Leave all".You have evidently found a rich vein in [Slavland?] and I am glad to see you are still in the woods the Sargent plan of salvation for trees will prove I think a glorious reformation & makethe pine needles tingle for for joy. What a huge affair that Silva of Sargents is. Its appearance now should greatly augment his influence in forest affairs.Remember me to Mrs. Johnson. Gilder [illegible] etc & believe me everYour friend trulyJohn MuirYour ceaseless glacier-like grind & push in God's good causes keeps my admiration ever fresh.I hope Drake will not escape me on his return from the ice. See that this does not happen.
