Ever Cordially Yours John Muir01107[1][letterhead]LONDON, Aug. 8. 1893Dear Cousins two I feel woefully lost here, & yet Ive had a grand time in many ways since I left you. I went to Dumfries without getting much lost & found Susan I fell in love with her & would have stayed with her an extravagant & unreasonable time had it not been for the illness of Mrs McKie. So I left her next day after my arrival showing in this great & praiseworthy self denial. Then I went to Sterling & through the [illegible] to Oban[in margin: My love to cousin [Mather?]] [2]Thence to Edinburgh by Glasgow & next morning sailed from Leith to Norway. Thence back to Edinburgh - Thence to Windermere Grasmere etc & thence to this grand & glorious lovely wilderness London. The Highland trip was very fine but the Norway one was truly glorious, & besides the pure pleasure I gained many grand glacial facts b[illegible]ring on earth sculpture & earth beauty. Windermere was lovely charming aside from its [illegible] associations. & I gained glacial facts there too mts the bargain - All these beautiful & famous lakes are glacier lakes[3]& every line in the noble landscapes there are glacial lines. What a pity it is that Wordsworth with all his fine feeling for Nature died without any Knowledge of the glacial gospel. I got here last night & I start tomorrow morning for Switzerland. I expect to go to Dover Brussels Basle Lucerne, Interlaken, Grin[illegible] La[illegible] Lausanne [illegible] Marti[illegible] Cha[illegible] Geneva Berne etc etc & hope to get back about the end of this month, then go to ...
