Found apples, Lonicera with black fruit Menziesii Red huckleberry salmonberry yel[yellow] & red – ripe most of fruit already eaten by main or bird – [or] squirrel In taking down totem pole a nest of Doug sqr[Douglas squirrel] or red [Even] found 2 of ½ grown young Caught & made into specimens of course. Sailed about 8 PM. July 27. Lovely morning The light dancing in Grenville Channel. Wright Strait Finlayson Reach? [Kulkurk]? Strait or Narrows, etc. Warm trees, warm yel[yellow] of Thuya, cupressus & Hemlock. Dark bluish green of most of the spruce – Sitka & Doug[Douglas]. Cedars mostly on shore At 8.30 anchored in Safety Cove for drinks on top deck Mighty lively & merry witty time. Sioux war dance by Cap [Captain] Kelly very effective.
