Saw large broad low-descending gl[acier] near the mouth of Copper River [Sketch: Below Dalton [dirt] gl[acier] dist[ant] gl] At 8 PM arrive at Orca |o| a small island & mainland a cannery. P.O. store. ½ the salmon catch already put up. Large ship at anchor ready to take it away. The mainland slopes steep heavily timbered Men[Menzus] Sp[Spruce]. Mert [Mertensia] hemlock with Paton hemlock forming timberline at height of 2000 Some of them 20 ft high. The other hem[lock] & sp[ruce] 4 to 5 ft dia 150 ft h[igh] Broad light green down-swooping spaces richly embossed with alder willow balsam [poplar] have been cleared by snow avas [avalanches] [Sketch: Looking N entering P.
