Description
Summary:Hermaphrodite flrs[flowers] of P. sitchensis [Drawing: La Perouse & Crillon?] Entrance to Lituya Bay Sailed at 7.30 P.M. Many fear sea sickness but the ocean is about as calm as the harbor. 19 Still calm as harbor & inland waters. Scarce any perceptible swell. Dry but cldy[cloudy] down to about 2 or 3000 feet with occasional glimpses up to 4 or 5000. The many gls[glaciers] made wonderful show beginning with the Brady & ending for the day with the Yakutat. Some 10 reach the level of sea but though large & fed by [ftns] so high & lavishly snow laden not one sends off bergs. While the other flank of the range sends no fewer than 9 berg-producing gls[glaciers] to the sea in Gl[acier] Bay. The West flank should probably receive more snow than the East or NE. rather No doubt one of the causes of greater [waste] by https://scholarlycommons.pacific.edu/jmj-all/3626/thumbnail.jpg
