Description
Summary:Cape Barrow as far as Barter Island and the mouth of the Mackenzie and far to the S. of here. Grand feasts, dances, and news-giving and getting. Beautiful afternoon. Temp. 51 until sunset. A heavy black-blue cloud bank to the S. The Mulgrave hills finely modeled, almost the same color, only closer in texture. Intensely blue as seen from distance of 25 miles, and orange and yellow towards the West, with lense-shaped small clouds deep, thick, opaque blue among the yellow, or in front of it. Clear sky overhead, calm and lovely. Reached CHamisso Island at 10 P.M. and came to anchor. Lovely night now, 12 P.M., clear, starry sky. Can see Jupiter’s moons, 2 of them. Full moon silvering the water and showing the Chamisso and Puffin Islands close at hand, dark on the shining water. Hope to visit Elephant Point, and the strange ice formation we have heard so much about, tomorrow. https://scholarlycommons.pacific.edu/jmj-all/3170/thumbnail.jpg
