Mt Fairweather is the most beautiful of all. the giants that stand grand about Gl [Glacier] Bay It is made up of massive pks [peaks] with well fashioned gables. rising higher [huger] in massive yet richly & ornate sculpture. its snow fields on grand scale. When the sun is shining on [it] from the E [east] or South its glorious gls [glaciers] & sculptures noble proportions. Colors are brought out in most telling display -- In the late 43 afternoon its features less distinct. Atmosphere seems pale & hazy. Altogether have had delightful day. A glorious celebration of the 4th. July 5. A few clds [clouds] but fair & mostly sunful. Went up to gl [glacier] to observe motion on marked points. July 6. Went 3 or 4 ms [miles] down the coast of inlet with the Reid party's cook who is an experienced boatman & camper - prospector. Landed at point of grand stratified moraine banks Saw sections of 1000 ft [feet] up on mtn [mountain] slope.
