Description
Summary:The contributor brought in a U-boat torpedo stopwatch. It is produced by Junghans and was used to time torpedo shots. It is unclear exactly how it came into his father-in-law's possession, but he served from 1943 as a communications officer on HMS Talybont on the North Atlantic. He was called up on his 18th birthday. The contributor's father-in-law did not speak much about the war, but mentioned pulling young Germans out of the water from sunken ships. After the war, he read history at University College, Oxford and was a pacer for Roger Bannister. There is not proof, but the family thought the watch was from this originally.
