Summary:Objective: To demonstrate the elevation of fasting plasma glucose in Rattus rattus var. albinus due to the use of propranolol. Material and Methods: 20 specimens were used which were divided into an experimental group and a control group of 10 specimens each group. They were subjected to a stage of standardization for a week, then measured and compared the average plasma glucose in both groups. Administered for 12 weeks propranolol and distilled water orally to experimental and control groups respectively, subsequently measured and compared the average plasma glucose in both groups. Results: No significant difference was found (p>0.05) when comparing the average plasma glucose in both groups before administration of propranolol. A significantly difference was found high (p<0.001) when comparing the average plasma glucose in both groups after administration of propranolol. Conclusions: Plasma glucose values of Rattus rattus var. albinus were elevated after use of propranolol. Material y Métodos: Se utilizaron 20 especímenes, los cuales fueron divididos en un grupo experimental y un grupo control de 10 especímenes cada uno. Fueron sometidos a una etapa de estandarización por una semana, posteriormente se midió y comparó el promedio de glucosa plasmática de ambos grupos. Se administró por 12 semanas propranolol y agua destilada vía oral al grupo experimental y control respectivamente, posteriormente se midió y comparó el promedio de glucosa plasmática de ambos grupos. Resultados: No se encontró diferencia significativa (p>0.05) al comparar el promedio de glucosa plasmática de ambos grupos antes de la administración de propranolol. Se encontró una alta diferencia significativa (p<0.001) al comparar el promedio de glucosa plasmática de ambos grupos después de la administración de propranolol. Conclusiones: Los valores de glucosa plasmática de Rattus rattus var. albinus se elevaron después del uso de propranolol. Tesis
