Summary: | Plerocercoid larvae of Diphyllobothrium spp. occur commonly in various species of freshwater and anadromous fishes in Alaska. Several times in recent years the writer has observed a distinctive plerocercoid in the blackfish, Dallia pectoralis Bean, an abundant and economically important species in the Kuskokwim River region of western Alaska. This cestode was studied in detail during the summer and fall of 1955, and has been found to represent an undescribed species, for which the name Diphyllobothrium dalliae n. sp. is proposed. |
