Description
Summary:5 fig., 55 tab. The fauna studied here come from layers 3f, 3e, 3d', 3d, 3c, 3a. The taxa represented in the gravettian and aurignacian levels of Temnata were able only rarely to be the object of a detailed palaeontological study because the very important fragmentation makes that the number of vestiges attributable to each of them is not still enough and their state of preservation often little satisfactory. In a general way Carnivores are rare in all the levels and the Bear is the most plentiful. As regards Herbivores the Horse dominates followed by the Ibex, Bovine and the Red Deer. The faunal groups testify of the dominance of the forms of not arctic steppes, then of those of mountain, of woody regions and more or less swampy regions; this is to be put in connection with the topography of the region but the presence of Bos primigenius in the layer 3a could also testify of the institution of a little sweeter conditions or at least wetter. The study of Equus hydruntinus and doubtless also that of the Horse allow to bring to light the biogeographical originality of an "Italian-Balkan" province sharply different from the other provinces on the West of the Alpine bow. The Archaeozoological study was not able to be very far led because of the very big fragmentation and of the state of preservation of the remains but it seems that the Man is responsible for the bone accumulation in the whole of the studied layers, even if we can distinguish also a clear action of the Hyena in the layer 3g.
