From introduction: As part of the relicensing efforts for the Mattaceunk Project (Weldon Dam and impoundment), Great Northern Paper (GNP) has been evaluating fishway passage at the site since 1983. Weldon Dam is located in Mattawamkeag, Maine and is the fifth and farthest upstream dam on the main stem of the Penobscot River (approximately 65 river miles above the breached Bangor Dam at head-of-tide). The Weldon fishway is a pool and weir design. There are 36 pools with a drop of approximately 14 inches between pools. A gravity-fed pipe can provide additional attraction water to the entrance pool of the fishway.
