Description
Summary:V diplomski nalogi sta predstavljena zgodovina in razvoj osnovnega šolstva v kraju Šmarje pri Jelšah, in sicer centralne Osnovne šole Šmarje pri Jelšah ter njenih podružničnih šol. This thesis presents the history and development of primary education in the town of Šmarje pri Jelšah, that is of the central primary school and its branches. I have studied the period from 1996 onwards. The thesis includes the historical background of the town, its socio-geographical features and various pieces of information about the population structure. Many data about the school system of the town can be found in school chronicles, which are kept in individual schools, though some of the old chronicles are also kept in the Historical Archives of Celje. In these writings there is a lot of information about the history of the schools that have undergone many radical changes. The schools in the studied region appeared at the end of the 18th century. It is believed that the lessons started in 1797 after the new parish rectory had been built and the old one started to be used for the purposes of schooling. Till 1873 the school had only three grades, but in that year a new school building with five classrooms was built. At that time the lessons were taught in the Slovenian language due to the efforts of the then curate Anton Aškerc and the landlord Franc Skaza. A lack of children was the main reason for the merger of small schools with bigger central schools. After the earthquake in 1974 a new central Primary School of Šmarje pri Jelšah was built, which was joined by seven branch schools by the year of 1986. Up to today only one branch school has been closed. Therefore the Primary School of Šmarje pri Jelšah has six branches: Kristan Vrh, Mestinje, Sladka Gora, Sveti Štefan, Šentvid pri Grobelnem and Zibika. Till 2002 this school offered the eight-year program, whereas in the school year of 2002/2003 it started the experimental introduction of a nine-year primary school program. In the thesis I have presented in greater detail the central school and its branches taking into account the number of the students, the staff, spatial and material changes and different curricular activities from 1996 to this day.
