Description
Nursing care of patients after amputation of lower extremities is, essentially, removal of useless or harmful lower limbs. In my diploma thesis I have presented the anatomy and physiology of lower extremities and have described the most common causes or illnesses, which can lead to amputation of lower extremities: atherosclerosis, PAOD - peripheral arterial occlusive disease , critical ischemia, and thromboangiitis obliterans (Buergers disease). I have also described the nursing care before, during, and after the amputation, as well as psychological problems, with which patients experience after amputation. I have described the most common post-op nursing diagnoses, wound treatment, the importance of proper bandaging of the stub, educating the patient about stub higiene, fittings and prostheses, so that the patient can maintain as much indepence as possible after being discharged. During my writing I have proposed two research questions and answered them to the fullest extent.
