Description
Summary:V diplomskem delu smo predstavili demenco kot družinsko bolezen in njen velik vpliv na svojce. In my thesis we presented dementia as a family disease and the immense influence that it has on the relatives. Dementia is among the most common disorders in old age and thereby brings a lot of problems not only to the diseased, but also to his dependants and the environment that they live in. Thesis consists of theoretical and empirical part. In the theoretical part dementia is presented in details and also the family who is struggling with the disease. In the empirical part we focus on the dependants who are caring for an elderly with dementia in the home environment. The survey was carried out at Radlje ob Dravi in March 2012 and covered 15 relatives of elderly with dementia. With the survey questionnaire which consisted of 22 questions of open, semi – open and closed – end type, we wanted to determine how familiar the relatives are with the disease, what difficulties they are facing while caring for an elderly with dementia and what form of assistance, if at all, do they get. The results of the survey have shown that the relatives are quite well educated about dementia, but the majority would like even more information about the disease itself. While caring for an elderly, relatives mostly or very often feel stressed out. The majority uses informal forms of assistance, such as other family members, friends and neighbours. Help and tips are also provided by the health visitor and social services.
