Summary:The author describes the principal characteristics of the phisical environment of Spitzbergen and its gradual alteration within the island. On this base the importance and the effects of both, natural impacts and human impacts, the latter caused by coal mining, on ecosistems, vegetation and its regeneration capacity is workes out. La autora del trabajo estudia detenidamente las características físicas y ambientales de la región ártica y sitúa los impactos naturales y los causados por las actividades mineras en la isla de Spitberg. Concluye sobre la trascendencia que para los ecosistemas vegetales de la isla tienen ambos tipos de impactos, sobre la capacidad de las plantas para recolonizar los espacios afectados y sobre la fragilidad general del medio.
