Description
Summary:The first section unfold the paper’s ideological and theoretical framework. The second sectionevolves around the narratives of two epidemics/pandemics: the stories of the so-called SpanishFlu pandemic (1918-1919) and the so-called avian flu (1997-present). Both narratives leaveout the biological side of the diseases; quite the reverse, it underlines its social meanings andits popular perceptions –past and present. Furthermore, the analysis give special credit to theelite’s roles played from the very inception of those popular imageries. The metodology ismultidisciplinary and it make use of some simple cybernetics ressources. This paper can bereaded as a warning against a salient feature of the hypermedicalized world: the instigatedbiological fear.
