Description
Summary:A solo exhibition in AIP Gallery, Redtory district, Guangzhou, China. 9th May - 9th July 2015 (extended for viewing by gallery/public demand to 9th October 2015). The show consisted of a selection original drawings and photographic art artworks, differing in content than the Blink, Hong Kong exhibition but related to the general researched theme. This exhibition came about as an invite after the curators saw the exhibition in Hong Kong, but differed in terms of choice of works for the show. The research theme is again centred around, Being in Time - the person in time and in place (see also A View From The Cloud presents a worldview through art, tech, & innovation). The two extraordinary places were; Antarctica (where once again St James was invited to be Artist-in-Residence for the second time - 2014) and The Yellow Mountains of China (Huangshan Province) invited as Artist-in-Residence (2013) by the Chinese government cultural - Art China . These works and exhibition represent outputs from the two residences. The Redtory Art District in the southern city of Guangzhou, China is similar to 798 district in Beijing and represents the cutting edges of art in a non-official form and context. It represents as the major art district in the city where a number of art galleries come together to exhibit artist's works. This was St James' second invited exhibition in the art district, previously at the Iron Curtin Gallery, Redtory (2012). The sequence of invites were as follows: First invited to exhibit at Redtory 798, Beijing (2012). From this was invited to exhibit at Iron Curtain Gallery, Redtory, Guangzhou (2012), invited to exhibit at Blink Gallery, Hong Kong (2014), from this invited to exhibit at AIP Gallery Redtory (2015) AntarcticaThe White FieldColdest place the white fieldMoonscape no dustVastness in time and space floating past like parts of a gigantic breaking clockExtreme slow motionSweeping gales beyond beliefRotate again Huangshan Province, China Up The Yellow Mountain up the mountain by cable car the ...
