Description
Summary:Sargassum fluitans y Sargassum natans are holopelagic brown macroalgae that can aggregate to form extensive floating mats on the surface of North Atlantic (Sargasso Sea). The present paper describes the occurrence of an excessive drift of Sargassum fluitans in the East coast of Cienfuegos province, central-southern region of Cuba, in May of 2012. Most impact of the drift by mechanic effect on the coast was reported in the touristic sector. Atypical meteorological conditions were observed during the Sargassum drift.
