Description
Summary:The main objective in this paper was to describe the community of ectoparasites and hemoparasites in dogs in the vicinity of Serra de São José, Minas Gerais State. The survey involved 24hosts in which samples of blood and ectoparasites were collected. The ectoparaistes were identified bystereoscopy or photonic microscopy. Hemoparasites were detected by blood smear with Giemsa stain and the diagnostic of Leishmania sp. was obtained by ELISA and RIFI. The most prevalent ectoparasite was Ctenocephalides felis felis (83.3%) followed Rhipicephalus sanguineus (33.3%). Immature ticks, Tunga penetrans, Trichodectes canis and Dermatobia hominis, were also found in lower prevalence. We registered morphological variations of chaetotaxy, in genus Ctenocephalides in 12.5% of the hosts. One dog was positive to Babesia canis and two dogs were reagent for Leishmania sp. Teve-se como principal objetivo descrever a comunidade de ectoparasitos e hemoparasitos de cães residentes no entorno da Serra de São José, Minas Gerais.
