This study aimed to characterize physical properties of soils degraded by water erosion and use methodologies for recovering erosions in pilot areas of Rural Settlement Nova Esperança, located in the municipality of Euclides da Cunha Paulista, far west of São Paulo. So, proceeded with the morphological description of 10 soil profiles horizons; physical routine analysis of 20 samples (A and B horizons); georeferencing of main erosions through Geographic Information System (GIS) Idrisi Taiga; deployment of physical barriers in a degraded area. From these procedures, there have been some changes in soil physical properties, manifested in the values of density, porosity and texture that reveal the compaction and the predominance of sandy texture class that accentuate erosive processes; the application of the methodology for recovery achieved excellent results; and the use of GIS enabled spatial visualization of erosions on the Rural Settlement. The collected data show that the policy of creating rural settlements, based on the distribution of land, should be well planned and monitored by qualified technicians to ensure the success of the settlement projects in order to mitigate the environmental impacts generated by erosion processes Esta pesquisa objetivou caracterizar fisicamente os solos degradados por erosão hídrica e utilizar metodologias para recuperação de focos erosivos em áreas piloto no Assentamento Rural Nova Esperança, localizado no município de Euclides da Cunha Paulista, extremo oeste do estado de São Paulo. Para tanto, procedeu-se com a descrição morfológica dos horizontes de 10 perfis de solo; análises físicas de rotina de 20 amostras (horizontes A e B); georreferenciamento de focos erosivos através do Sistema de Informações Geográficas (SIG) Idrisi Taiga; implantação de barreiras físicas em uma das áreas degradadas.
