Description
Summary:This is an interview with Aijakko Mitiq, a 67 year old former hunter and one of the last performing drum-dancers in the region. A West Greenlandic speaking interpreter was used for the interview. Aijakko speaks Inuktun or Polar Eskimo in the interview. Aijakko is talking about the background to the drum-dancing tradition and how he was introduced to the practice whilst growing up in a tiny settlement called Neqi. This settlement closed down about twenty years ago and is now completely abandoned. He tells us that the songs have never been written down, that he does not know how big his repertoire is and that the songs are not being passed onto the young people.
