Summary:Studies into the history of native uses of local plant materials for medicine have often provided significant insight into the structure and achievements of their culture. In addition, the documentation of such practices has frequently led to the discovery of important new pharmaceutical products and procedures. Literature on this subject is briefly reviewed, representing initial research into the history and chemistry of pharmacologically-exploited arctic natural products, particularly those of Alaska.
