| Summary: | Fifty-two bird species were observed between 12 June and 4 July 1970 in the coastal plain near Nuvagapak Point, northeastern Alaska. Habitat preferences were studied. Nesting was established or seemed probable in 25 species, and a further 5 may have been breeding. Among these were 2 species of Gaviiformes, 7 Anseriformes, 16 Charadriiformes, and 2 Passeriformes. Most birds were associated with some form of surface waters. Among the 8 predators, 6 were largely rodent hunters. Between mid June and early July, these species decreased markedly in abundance together with brown lemmings. |
