Summary:The work analyzes the process of institutional interaction between the ATS (Antarctic Treaty System) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), regarding maritime transport and the prevention of pollution from ships in areas under the responsibility of the ATS, based on six elements: the recognition of competence; proficiency and risk dimension; the influence of State Parties; the environmental agenda; legislative convergence; and the suppression of sensitive topics. O trabalho analisa o processo de interação institucional entre a STA e a Organização Marítima Internacional (OMI), relativa ao transporte marítimo e à prevenção da poluição proveniente de embarcações nas áreas sob responsabilidade do STA, a partir de seis elementos: o reconhecimento da competência; proficiência e dimensão do risco, a influência dos Estados Partes; a agenda ambiental, a convergência legislativa e a supressão de temas sensíveis.
