Description
Summary:We recently had the privilege to attend the International Conference in Tromso Norway of Organisation Mondiale Pour L'Education Prescolaire (OMEP), entitled "The Great Little Researcher", where we presented the OMEP Aotearoa New Zealand project on "Play and learning for children under three years" to an international audience. During our long trip home together we had many hours to reflect on our Nordic experience where we had the opportunity to visit early childhood centres in Tromso, Norway, and Gotenborg, Sweden. As is always the case with such privileged experiences, we were left with much to ponder. Being so far away from home, and having one another to bounce ideas off, we found ourselves contemplating our situation at home in light of what we had seen during our trip - weighing up the benefits and disadvantages of one approach against another; and the ideals that underpin them.
