I can’t think of the name of it. It's a good one, to old-time Scottish, schoddist, or what ever you call it. Thom: Have you always played in this area, Raymond? Ray: Yeah. Thom: I moan, out of state or any place? Ray: No. Thom: Just mostly in this area? Ray: Yeah. Thom: These songs we’ve been playing, some of them have been recorded, but you picked them up—just been handed down, played at these dances, and things like that? Ray: Yeah. Just handed down. Just around home. Mrs. J. I. Hall: He’s a Hog Eye product. Thom: Hog Eye product. J. I. Hall: Center of the Universe, Goldie: And who hasn’t played in a long time. Dan: Dean, you played around all over the area? Dean: Yes, All over the county, you might say. Ray: Yeah. I have too. Thom: You mentioned some of those contests. Were you ever in a contest Raymond? Ray: Fiddling contest? Oh, I used to go to fiddling contests. Thom: You did? Ray: Yeah. Dan: Did you used to go (to) any of them, Dean? Dean: No. I never did play in a contest. Thom: Who was one of the favorite fiddlists around here—or the one who used win it the most, you night say, the contest?Ray: Oh. Thom: Fiddlist? Ray: Bud Phillips. Dan: Who's this? Ray: Bud Phillips, Thom: Bud Phillips. Dan: All of those boys were from out at Hog Eye, weren't they? Ray: Yeah. Thom: Turned out good musicians, Ray: There used to be lots of guys that could play the fiddle around there. Dean: Dello Caven. Ray: Dello Caven used to be good, Goldie: His favorite used to be "Sugar in the Coffee." Ray: No, that was Ozz. Thom: Can you play that? Ray: "Sugar in the Coffee"?
