| Summary: | The Summer 1998 issue of the Alaska Justice Forum reports that the number of Alaska Natives and American Indians employed in the Alaska justice system, both state and federal, was still low in 1998 and tended to be concentrated in lower level, non-policy-making positions. Bureau of Justice Statistics numbers on federal and state prison populations show that Alaska's prison population has grown by 45.5 percent from 1987 to 1997.
