Summary:Based on the principle of mechanical balance, a new method for joint tide and GPS measurement of sea ice thickness in polar regions is proposed. From the GPS observation on the sea ice, the upper surface of the sea ice can be obtained, and the tide can provide the sea surface height. Combined with the two observation data, the sea ice dry string height can be calculated, and combined with the sea ice surface snow thickness and ice and snow density data. The calculation model of sea ice thickness can be constructed by the principle of mechanical balance. According to this principle, the thickness of sea ice thickness from September 22 to November 9, 2012 was monitored through the experiment of the 28th Antarctic expedition team on the sea ice near Zhongshan Station. Compared with the measured ice thickness of the borehole, the overall accuracy reaches the cm level, the maximum difference is 8.9cm, and the root mean square of the difference is 5.4cm.
