| Summary: | The emergence of Global Health in promoting partnership, security, and stability among US and its allies provides an opportunity for military health science education to be a central focus of collaboration among nations. A database/catalog of the comparable capabilities of international military medical schools can catalyze increased cooperation in education and research. Including the U.S. Uniformed Services University, public sources identify twenty-four schools distributed in PACOM (11) EUCOM (9), CENTCOM (1), SOUTHCOM (1) and NORTHCOM (2). Fifty percent of students receive civilian health education with military education conducted at the end of each academic year. In six countries the military programs are embedded within a civilian institution. Five countries use civilian institutions for postgraduate training while five have dedicated military graduate and postgraduate programs. Five schools have distinct military curriculum applicable to varied types of operations. Half of the schools house nursing, allied health, veterinary medicine, public health, biomedical, or aerospace programs which offer additional arenas for international collaboration. When developed this resource will be a significant tool for DOD to harness health science education collaboration in support of capacity building and potential interoperability. The database will provide critical information for theatre, Service, and joint surgeons employ in support of security cooperation initiatives with regional and global partners.
