Summary:The article deals with the analysis of archival documents for the 1960–1980s deposited in the diocesan administrations of the Northern dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church. This set of sources is poorly understudied, as modern historians generally use materials of Federal and regional state archives. The author characterizes the different groups of Church documents from the point of view of their form, content and informational opportunities for the study of the history of Orthodoxy in the Russian North. The article is prepared on records of the Church archives of the Arkhangelsk and Vologda dioceses. It is intended for researchers of Church history and law, and for all who are interested in the sources on the history of the USSR of the period of “late socialism”.
